Well, this is of course a fairly selective list of Not Really Hamster-related
Resources. After all the general category could include nearly every single
page on the Web. Rather this is a list of Web pages that really have nothing
to do with hamsters at all but which have the name "hamster" in them
for some reason.
nb: this site is no longer being updated and a majority of the sites linked
here are probably defunct.
- Fellowbug's Laboratory
- I'm not sure what this stuff is all about, exactly. Some sort of commercial page
advertising something. Anyway it has a cartoon rat who claims to be a hamster. Go figure.
- Greg's Home Page
- The home page of some guy who calls himself Hamsterman. Contains no hamsters,
but does have some Far Side kangaroos.
- Hamster
- Any search of the Web for the word "hamster" will bring up zillions of references to hamster cell line
biology - and this. It's apparently a computer in Finland named "hamster." Otherwise it has nothing to do with
hamsters. (aside from a picture of a cartoon animal that looks more like a gopher.)
- Hamster: How Much
- Nothing to do with hamsters, really. An exercise from a school curriculum using a hamster to teach kids problem solving
or something like that. A skill I know I've never needed as a nominal adult.
- HamsterWorld
- A promotional page for an unfinished text adventure that's been in vapourware
since 1992. Should be pretty cool when it's done, though.
- Hamster World
- Totally different from above; this one's a new English play by mail game. "The game for furry folk."
- HyperCard Square
- This is a collection of HyperCard stacks written by a group of Japanese HyperCard fans. One of them is a strange
piece named MU-chan which tells the story of cartoon character who meets a hamster at a party. I think. It's
in Japanese with kind of English subtitles alongside.
- the Jargon File
- According to this entry in the Jargon File, the word "hamster" holds special meaning to hackers.
- Mahonri Web
- I don't know if I can believe this page is for real or not, but it apparently belongs to a - er - rather dedicated
fundamentalist Mormon who claims his "hampster" (sic) served as divine inspiration. Or something.
The Lord works in mysterious ways, eh? Lots of very progressive 19th century religious tracts.
- Weird Al Yankovic songs
- Mr. Yankovic, that kind of annoying curly-haired twerp who turns up on teevee with
alarming regularity, has written two songs that denigrate and belittle the noble hamster.
